ACC Recognizes Students on Awards Day Alvin Community College recognized several students for academic excellence during the Award Day ceremony on May 1. ACC Disaster Drill Alvin Community College Allied Health programs worked together during a disaster drill on campus on April 26. The event included mock disaster scenarios that included patients suffering from gunshots, a drowning victim, injuries in a car wreck, operating an emergency room as well as dealing with multiple patients in simulated nursing wards. ACC Regents Approve Equipment Purchases The Alvin Community College Board of Regents approved equipment purchases for several workforce training programs during their meeting on April 25. The board unanimously approved a $62,500 contract to purchase a holographic patient simulator for the EMS program. The simulator will utilize both virtual and augmented reality technology for students to practice their skills treating patients. The purchase was funded by a grant from the Texas Reskilling and
The Alvin Community College Foundation presented approximately $28,000 in grants and awards at the annual Honoring Excellence Reception on April 23. The ACC Foundation presented faculty and staff members with the Foundation Excellence Awards which recognize college faculty and staff members who go above and beyond every day. ACC Students Recognized at Afternoon of Honor Alvin Community College students were recognized for their academic excellence on April 23 during the annual Honoring Excellence Reception at the Nolan Ryan Center. ACC President Dr. Robert J. Exley recognized students as Presidential Scholars for their academic accomplishments throughout the school year. To be eligible for the Presidential Scholar distinction, students must have completed a minimum 45 semester hours and maintained at least a 3.95 GPA.
ACC Hosts Artist BeSomeone When it comes to being an artist, a visiting Alvin Community College artist said his message is really simple: Be Someone. He made the expression his name. The anonymous graffiti artist, who goes by the alias BeSomeone, recently displayed some of his work at the ACC Fine Arts gallery. The artist is known for his “BeSomeone” mural painted on a bridge over a Houston highway. “I’m excited to be here,” he said. “I want (the message) out there to inspire everyone
